Navigating Compliance: Key Insights from BCD M&E at IPCAA 2026

In January, the BCD M&E team attended the annual seminar on Compliance at the International Pharmaceutical Congress Advisory Association (IPCAA) event in Brussels. The seminar brought together industry leaders from medical associations, pharma, and compliance & industry partners to discuss key topics including regulations and responsible event delivery with an overall theme of Common Ground.

In attendance was Louise Kjaertinge, Global Director, Congress Solutions Design who said: “As a Global Director for Congress Solution Design, my role is to have my finger on the pulse with a focus on understanding relevant industry trends, compliance discussions, and any other associated challenges.

The complexity surrounding attendance at congresses persists with strict regulatory requirements to navigate. There are many frameworks in place, but they can be interpreted differently especially when adapted from changing local and national laws as well as codes. So how do we keep navigating this? One of my takeaways emphasized the need for ongoing cross-stakeholder collaboration in an open format. It is essential to continue to foster trust and embrace education within our field.”

Seminar insights from BCD M&E:

1. Definitions of healthcare professionals (HCPs) are under scrutiny
2. Venue selection is highly regulated
3. Compliance challenges affect the entire ecosystem
4. If compliance is unclear, follow the most conservative interpretation

Also in attendance, Francesca Panu, EMEA Life Science Center of Excellence Supervisor said: “Listening to EFPIA President Kristine Peers’ speech was an empowering experience! She passionately emphasized how vital associations like EFPIA are in today’s rapidly changing geopolitical landscape. Her call to always keep patients at the heart of our compliance and regulatory changes truly resonated.”

Michael Straetz, Account Manager, added: “Particularly revealing were the discussions on the complex aspects of congress planning that affect all stakeholders. It became clear how important close networking and open communication between the different stakeholders are to work together effectively and master the challenges.”

BCD M&E’s attendance at this key industry event offered the opportunity to discover how the power of sharing best practice and effective collaboration can strengthen trust and keep medical congresses future ready.
